Academic Summary
Alejandro Dorazco is a Mexican academic at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He holds a degree in Chemistry from the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico and a master’s and PhD in Chemical Sciences from UNAM. He was awarded the “Ignacio Manuel Altamirano” and “Alfonso Caso” medals for academic excellence for his undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Science and Technology – EPFL from 2011 to 2012.
Currently, he is a tenured researcher at the Institute of Chemistry at UNAM. He is a member of the National System of Researchers Level II, the Mexican Chemical Society, the American Chemical Society, the Swiss Chemical Society, and the CONAHCyT Register of Evaluators.
Over the last decade, he has specialized in the synthesis of luminescent artificial receptors for the spectroscopic detection of ions, monosaccharides, neurotransmitters, drugs, and chemical indicators of diseases in complex samples.
He is the author or co-author of 60 international publications of original research in the area of supramolecular and inorganic chemistry, 4 international book chapters, 2 review articles, and 30 science dissemination articles. He is the inventor of 4 granted patents focused on the detection of disease indicators and drugs for the treatment of diabetes.
He has supervised 20 undergraduate theses, 11 master’s theses, and 5 doctoral theses. He has contributed as the director of 3 postdoctoral stays. He has given 20 national conferences at various congresses and universities, as well as in several countries (Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Spain, and the United States).
He has taught 62 undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico.
RECONOCIMIENTO MOLECULAR Y QUIMIOSENSORES
Diseño, síntesis y estudios espectroscópicos de nuevos receptores artificiales luminiscentes y/o cromogénicos basados en centros metálicos y/o fluoróforos orgánicos funcionales para la quimiodetección de bioanalítos (aniones inorgánicos, monosacáridos, nucleótidos, neurotransmisores, fármacos y sistemas proteicos como hemoglobina glicosilada) en medios acuosos. Los quimiosensores que se desarrollan están basados en los conceptos de reconocimiento molecular de los sistemas huésped-anfitrión y en la combinación de las interacciones supramoleculares. Los estudios tienen como objetivo el entendimiento de nuevos conceptos en reconocimiento molecular que involucren fenómenos de cooperatividad entre sitios de unión en condiciones fisiológicas o muestras reales.
Estudiantes de Posdoctorado, Doctorado, Maestría y Licenciatura con interés en realizar Tesis en quimiosensores y receptores artificiales luminiscentes/cromogénicos son bienvenidos. Becas para Tesis en todos los niveles están disponibles. Alumnos de 7-9 semestre de licenciatura son bienvenidos para estancias de investigación.
