Científica independiente, conectada, comunicativa y técnicamente experimentada, con más de 19 años de experiencia, comprometido con la realización de investigaciones en biotecnología y biofarmacéuticos.

Liderazgo estratégico en el mundo académico y en empresas privadas en entornos internacionales en Francia, Bélgica, Países Bajos, Estados Unidos y México.

Licenciatura en Bioquímica en la Universidad de Bucarest, y Maestría en Bioquímica y Biología Molecular en la misma Universidad, recibiendo una beca Erasmus y realizando su tesis en Biología Estructural en Lille, Francia (2006-2008). Se graduó de un Doctorado Marie-Curie en la interfaz de la industria –Danone Research– y la Universidad de Wageningen, en los Países Bajos, estudiando las interacciones entre bacterias y huéspedes, con enfoque en los probióticos (2010-2016). Completó estudios posdoctorales en la Universidad de Chicago, EE. UU. (2016-2018) y en el Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas, UNAM, México (2018-2020). La Dra. Ceapă se unió al Instituto de Química como Investigadora en 2020, y actualmente es Investigador Asociado C adscrito al Departamento de Productos Naturales y pertenece al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores con el nivel SNI1. Ha publicado 15 artículos en revistas indexadas, una patente mundial, un libro y un capítulo de libro. Editora de Revisiones para Frontiers in Microbiotechnology. Ganadora de aproximadamente 3 millones de pesos en financiamiento en México. Junto con los demás laboratorios del Grupo de Desarrollo de Antimicrobianos del Instituto de Química, forma parte de la campaña de microfinanciamiento para limitar la resistencia a los antimicrobianos en México. Miembro de la Sociedad Internacional en Acción Frente a la Resistencia Antimicrobiana (SIAFRA) (desde 2021) y fundador y board member de la Asociación Marie Curie sucursal México (desde 2022).

Dra. Adela Rodríguez Romero

La Dra. Rodríguez Romero es Maestra y Doctora en Ciencias por la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. Es especialista en Cristalografía de Proteínas e Investigadora Emérita del SNII. Recibió el Premio a la mejor tesis doctoral en química en la UNAM en 1992 y el Reconocimiento Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, UNAM en 2006. Realizó dos estancias de investigación en el Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology, del National Institute of Standards and Technology, Maryland, Estados Unidos. A partir de 1986 es Invetigadora Titular “C” del Instituto de Química de la UNAM, en el Departamento de Química de Biomacromoléculas. Además, ella es responsable del Laboratorio de Estructura de Proteínas que forma parte del Laboratorio Nacional de Estructura de Macromoléculas (LANEM-IQ-UNAM). La Dra. Rodríguez es reconocida por sus aportaciones en el campo de la biología estructural, así como por la implementación y la consolidación de la Cristalografía de Proteínas en la UNAM.

Dr. Rodríguez Romero holds a Master’s and a Doctorate in Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. She is a specialist in Protein Crystallography and an Emeritus Researcher of the National System of Researchers (SNII). She received the Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Chemistry from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1992 and the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Recognition from UNAM in 2006. She completed two research stays at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Maryland, United States. Since 1986, she has been a Senior Researcher “C” at the Institute of Chemistry of UNAM, in the Department of Biomacromolecules Chemistry. Additionally, she is responsible for the Protein Structure Laboratory, which is part of the National Laboratory for Macromolecular Structure (LANEM-IQ-UNAM). Dr. Rodríguez is renowned for her contributions to the field of structural biology and for the establishment and consolidation of Protein Crystallography at UNAM.

Dra. Martha Lydia Macías Rubalcava

La Dra. Macías obtuvo el grado de Doctor en Ciencias Químicas, en la Facultad de Química, UNAM en 2001. Posteriormente, realizó estudios Posdoctorales en el Instituto de Biología ‘Jardín Botánico’ y en el Instituto de Ecología, UNAM. Ingresó al Instituto de Química en septiembre de 2010 y actualmente es Investigadora Titular B adscrita al Departamento de Productos Naturales. Ha publicado más de 50 artículos en revistas indizadas, 2 capítulos en libro y dirigido tesis de Licenciatura (15), Maestría (5) y Doctorado (4). En la actualidad dirige ocho tesis de Licenciatura, dos de Maestría, cuatro de Doctorado y una estudiante Posdoctoral.

Dr. Macías obtained her Doctorate in Chemical Sciences from the Faculty of Chemistry, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2001. Subsequently, she pursued Postdoctoral studies at the Institute of Biology ‘Botanical Garden’ and at the Institute of Ecology, UNAM. She joined the Institute of Chemistry in September 2010 within the Department of Natural Products. She has authored over 50 articles in indexed journals, 2 book chapters, and supervised theses at the Bachelor’s level (15), Master’s level (5), and Doctoral level (4). Currently, she supervises eight Bachelor’s theses, two Master’s theses, four Doctoral theses and one Postdoctoral student.

Dra. Selene García Reyes

La Dra. Selene García Reyes obtuvo su licenciatura en Ingeniería Ambiental en la Universidad Politécnica de Chiapas (2008-2011), seguida de una maestría en Biotecnología en el Centro de Investigaciones en Biotecnología (CEIB) de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (2014-2016) y un doctorado en Ciencias Biomédicas (2016-2021) en el Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

Su experiencia posdoctoral incluyó estancias en instituciones de renombre internacional. La primera, en el Institut de Biologie Structurale en Grenoble, Francia, fue becada por la Secretaría de Educación, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación de la Ciudad de México. La segunda tuvo lugar en el Instituto de Fisiología Celular de la UNAM, México, becada por la Dirección General de Asuntos del Personal Académico de la UNAM.

A lo largo de su formación de posgrado, se especializó en el estudio de la bacteria patógena Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Su investigación abordó aplicaciones ambientales, incluida la biorremediación de sitios contaminados con plaguicidas, así como la regulación genética de factores de virulencia, principalmente a través de la respuesta de quórum. Su enfoque actual se centra en el desarrollo de vacunas y terapias anti-virulencia para hacer frente a las infecciones causadas por cepas multirresistentes de Pseudomonas aeruginosa, un patógeno oportunista.

En 2024, la Dra. García se unió al Instituto de Química como Investigadora en el programa de Investigadores por México del CONAHCYT, adscrita al Departamento de Química de Productos Naturales. Además, forma parte del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores con el nivel Candidata. Su valiosa contribución se refleja en la publicación de 8 artículos en revistas indexadas.

Dr. Selene García Reyes obtained her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Chiapas (2008-2011), followed by a master’s degree in Biotechnology at the Center for Biotechnology Research (CEIB) of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (2014-2016), and a doctorate in Biomedical Sciences (2016-2021) at the Biomedical Research Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Her postdoctoral experience included stays at internationally renowned institutions. The first one, at the Institute of Structural Biology in Grenoble, France, was funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation of Mexico City. The second took place at the Institute of Cellular Physiology of UNAM, Mexico, funded by the General Directorate of Academic Affairs of UNAM.

Throughout her postgraduate training, she specialized in studying the pathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Her research addressed environmental applications, including the bioremediation of sites contaminated with pesticides, as well as the genetic regulation of virulence factors, mainly through quorum sensing response. Her current focus is on the development of vaccines and anti-virulence therapies to address infections caused by multidrug-resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen.

In 2024, Dr. García joined the Institute of Chemistry as a Researcher in the Researchers for Mexico program of CONACYT, affiliated with the Department of Natural Product Chemistry. Additionally, she is part of the National System of Researchers with the Candidate level. Her valuable contribution is reflected in the publication of 8 articles in indexed journals

Dra. Carol Siseth Martínez Caballero

La Dra. Carol Siseth Martínez cursó la licenciatura en Química Farmacéutica Biológica en la Facultad de Química de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Obtuvo su doctorado en Ciencias Bioquímicas en la misma universidad, enfocándose en el estudio estructural y la caracterización bioquímica de dos proteínas glicosil-hidrolasas implicadas en biotecnología y biomedicina. Posteriormente, se incorporó como investigadora postdoctoral en el Instituto de Química-Física “Rocasolano” del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), en España, donde se especializó en el área de Biología Estructural, centrando su trabajo principalmente en estudios funcionales y estructurales de proteínas de remodelado de la pared celular y de los mecanismos de regulación de la división bacteriana, así como en el desarrollo de nuevos antibióticos. Además, participó en estudios estructurales de enfermedades humanas y en el desarrollo de nuevas sondas para el reconocimiento de proteínas. A principios de agosto de 2021, se incorporó como investigadora en el Departamento de Química de Biomacromoléculas del Instituto de Química de la UNAM.

Dr. Carol Siseth Martínez completed her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Biological Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemical Sciences from the same university, specializing in the structural study and biochemical characterization of two glycoside hydrolase proteins involved in biotechnology and biomedicine.

She then joined the “Rocasolano” Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) as a postdoctoral researcher, where she specialized in Structural Biology. Her research primarily focused on the functional and structural analysis of cell wall remodeling proteins and the regulatory mechanisms of bacterial cell division, as well as the development of new antibiotics. Additionally, she contributed to structural studies of human diseases and the development of new probes for protein recognition.

In early August 2021, she joined the Department of Biomacromolecular Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, UNAM, as a researcher.

Dra. Valeria Itzel Reyes Pérez

La Dra. Valeria Itzel Reyes Pérez es egresada de la licenciatura en Química Farmacéutica Biológica (2016) de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. Realizó sus estudios de Maestría y Doctorado en Ciencias Químicas (2016-2022) en la Facultad de Química, UNAM. En 2023 inició una estancia postdoctoral en el Instituto de Química becada por la Dirección General de Asuntos del Personal Académico de la UNAM. Desde diciembre de 2024 es Investigadora Asociado C en el Departamento de Productos Naturales del Instituto de Química. Actualmente es Investigadora Nacional Nivel I. A lo largo de su carrera se ha dedicado a la investigación de plantas medicinales para la búsqueda, aislamiento y caracterización de nuevas moléculas con potencial farmacológico como antimicrobianos, antidiabéticos, analgésicos y antiinflamatorios; además de la validación y respaldo del uso tradicional de plantas de la herbolaria mexicana, a partir de estudios químicos, toxicológicos, farmacológicos y de control de calidad.

Dr. Valeria Itzel Reyes Pérez graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Biological Chemistry (2016) from the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico. She completed her Master’s and Doctorate studies in Chemical Sciences (2016–2022) at the Faculty of Chemistry, UNAM. In 2023, she began a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Chemistry, funded by the General Directorate of Academic Personnel Affairs of UNAM. Since December 2024, she has been a Research Associate C in the Natural Products Department at the Institute of Chemistry. She is currently a Level I National Researcher. Throughout her career, she has focused on the study of medicinal plants for the discovery, isolation, and characterization of new molecules with pharmacological potential as antimicrobials, antidiabetics, analgesics, and anti-inflammatories. Additionally, her work includes validating and supporting the traditional use of Mexican herbal medicine through chemical, toxicological, pharmacological, and quality control studies.

La Dra. Silva curso sus estudios de licenciatura en Química en la Facultad de Química de la UNAM. Los estudios de Maestría en Ciencias Químicas (Química Orgánica) y Doctorado en Ciencias los realizó dentro del Programa de Posgrado de Ciencias Químicas de la UNAM. Ingresó al depto. de Química Orgánica de la División de Estudios de Posgrado de la Facultad de Química de la UNAM y posteriormente se incorporó al mismo departamento en el Instituto de Química. Participó como miembro de la Comisión Interna de Equidad de Género en el Instituto de Química. Pertenece al Comité Editorial de la Gaceta Digital y a la Comisión Evaluadora del PRIDE del Área de las Ciencias Fisicomatemáticas y de las Ingenierías de la Facultad de Estudios Superiores Zaragoza.

Dr. Silva completed her undergraduate studies in Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, UNAM. She obtained her Master’s degree in Chemical Sciences (Organic Chemistry) and her Ph.D. in Sciences within the Graduate Program in Chemical Sciences at UNAM. She joined the Department of Organic Chemistry in the Graduate Division of the Faculty of Chemistry at UNAM and later became part of the same department at the Institute of Chemistry. Dr. Silva has served as a member of the Internal Gender Equity Commission at the Institute of Chemistry. She is part of the Editorial Committee of the Digital Gazette and the Evaluation Commission of PRIDE for the Physical-Mathematical Sciences and Engineering Area of the Faculty of Higher Studies Zaragoza.

Dra. Erandi Bernabé Pablo

La Dra. Erandi Bernabé Pablo estudió química en la Facultad de Química de la UNAM. Cursó sus estudios de posgrado en Ciencias Químicas en la misma universidad.

Realizó estancias de investigación predoctorales en la Universidad de Tecnología de Brno, República Checa en el laboratorio de polímeros y en la Universidad Georg-August en Gotinga, Alemania en el laboratorio de síntesis inorgánica. También realizó estancias posdoctorales en el Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales de la UNAM en el Laboratorio de Fisicoquímica y Reactividad de Superficies, en la Universidad Estatal de Misisipi en Estados Unidos y en el Instituto de Química de la UNAM. Desde el 1° de mayo de 2022 se incorporó como investigadora al Instituto de Química, sede Centro Conjunto de Investigación en Química Sustentable CCIQS UAEM-UNAM.

Dr. Erandi Bernabé Pablo studied chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She pursued her postgraduate studies in Chemical Sciences at the same university.

She conducted predoctoral research stays at the Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic in the polymer laboratory and at the Georg-August University in Göttingen, Germany, in the inorganic synthesis laboratory. She also completed postdoctoral stays at the Institute of Materials Research at UNAM in the Laboratory of Physicochemistry and Reactivity of Surfaces, at Mississippi State University in the United States, and at the Institute of Chemistry at UNAM. Since May 1, 2022, she has been working as a researcher at the Institute of Chemistry, Center for Joint Research in Sustainable Chemistry (CCIQS UAEM-UNAM).

Obtuvo el título de Químico en la Facultad de Química de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México en 1992, el grado de Doctor en Ciencias Químicas en 1996. Asimismo, realizó una estancia postdoctoral en el Instituto de Química Inorgánica de la Universidad Friedrich-Alexander, Erlangen-Nürnberg, Alemania (1996-1997) y en el Instituto de Fisicoquímica y Química Inorgánica de la Universidad de Bremen, Alemania (1997-98). Desde 1998 se incorporó al Instituto de Química de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, donde actualmente es Investigador Titular en el departamento de Química Inorgánica.

Prof. García-Montalvo received her B.Sc. in Chemistry degree from the School of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM) in 1992. She also received her Ph.D. in chemistry degree from Instituto de Química at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM) in 1996. She was a postdoctoral fellow in Chemistry Institute at Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany (1996-1997) and in Physicalchemistry and Chemistry Institute at Bremen University in Germany (1997-98).

Dra. Nuria Sánchez Puig

Cursó la Licenciatura en Química de Alimentos en la Facultad de Química de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (1993-1998). Posteriormente realizó una maestría en Ciencias Bioquímicas también en esta universidad en el campo de la evolución in vitro de proteínas (2004-2005). Obtuvo su doctorado en Ciencias Químicas (2001-2005) en la Universidad de Cambridge, Reino Unido bajo la tutela de Sir Professor Alan R. Fersht enfocándose en el área de ingeniería y biofísica de proteínas, en particular en el estudio de HIF-1a y p53 y su impacto en el desarrollo de enfermedades. Posteriormente se incorporó como investigadora posdoctoral en el Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Medical Research Council (LMB-MRC) en Cambridge, Reino Unido, donde se especializó en el área de bioquímica de proteínas dirigido a estudios funcionales de proteínas involucradas en la síntesis de ribosomas y enfermedades asociadas con fallas en este proceso, en específico con el Síndrome de Shwachman-Diamond. Desde el 2009 es investigadora en el Departamento de Química de Biomacromoléculas del Instituto de Química de la UNAM.

Completed her bachelor’s degree in Food chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (1993-1998). Later she completed a master’s degree in Biochemical Sciences also at this university in the field of in vitro evolution of proteins (1999-2001). Obtained her PhD degree in Chemistry (2001-2005) at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, under the supervision of Sir Professor Alan R. Fersht focusing on the area of protein engineering and biophysics, studying HIF-1a and p53 two proteins involved in human disease and cancer. She later joined the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Medical Research Council (LMB-MRC) in Cambridge, UK as a postdoctoral researcher where she specialized in the field of protein biochemistry focusing on functional studies of proteins involved in the synthesis of ribosomes and associated diseases, specifically the Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome. Since 2009 she is a scientist in the Department of Chemistry of Biomacromolecules of the Institute of Chemistry at UNAM.
